MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Parra announces Separate Park for females

Pulwama: In a move that has drawn widespread appreciation, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Pulwama, Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, announced the establishment of a separate park exclusively for women in Pulwama.
The proposal has been warmly welcomed by women across the district, who view it as a step towards creating safer and more inclusive public spaces.
MLA Pulwama Sunday said that a separate park is coming up for women in Pulwama
“Our daughters, sisters, and mothers deserve spaces where they feel safe and respected. The new park will not only ensure privacy and security but also promote physical and mental well-being for women in Pulwama,” he said.
The park, to be constructed in the heart of Pulwama town, will feature walking tracks, green lawns, and seating areas exclusively for women.
The announcement comes amid growing demand for gender-sensitive infrastructure in South Kashmir.
Local women have expressed immense satisfaction over the decision.
Shazia Jan, a college student from Pulwama, said, “This is something we have been waiting for. In a separate park, we won’t face issues like eve-teasing or safety concerns. It will be a space where we can relax freely and with dignity.”
Another resident, Ruqaya Bano, a homemaker, noted, “We don’t usually go for walks outside because of the mixed crowds. But with a separate park, we can go for morning walks, brisk walks, and meet other women. It’s a much-needed initiative for our health and mental peace.”
Sabreen Akhtar, a working professional, added, “This step shows that the government is listening to our concerns. Such spaces encourage women to come out of their homes and participate more actively in public life.”
The district administration has assured that work on the park will begin soon, and all necessary facilities including lighting, CCTV surveillance, and female staff will be made available to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for women.
