Shopian: Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) Shopian, in collaboration with the Divisional Forest Office (DFO) Shopian, launched a large-scale Plantation Drive themed “One SHG Member, One Sapling.”
Held across various locations in District Shopian, the initiative saw enthusiastic participation from Self Help Group (SHG) members representing all Community Development (CD) Blocks. Each SHG member took up the green pledge by planting a sapling, reinforcing the district’s collective commitment to environmental sustainability and grassroots leadership, a statement issued here said.
The drive was officially inaugurated by officers from JKRLM and the Forest Department, who praised the SHG women for taking active ownership of the initiative. The District Programme Manager of JKRLM Shopian remarked,
“Our SHG women are not just community leaders, but also eco-leaders. Through this plantation drive, we are nurturing both livelihoods and landscapes,” it said.
The Divisional Forest Office Shopian played a crucial role by providing high-quality saplings and technical support to ensure the plantation’s long-term viability.
This event is part of JKRLM’s broader strategy to integrate livelihood enhancement with environmental stewardship, aligning closely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With its success, similar green drives are expected to be launched throughout the district in the coming months, promoting a culture of climate action and sustainable development from the grassroots level.
