A wake-up call for the soul
By: Dr Aftab jan
This world is temporary. Its beauty is deceptive. Its comforts are a test. And its glitter, though blinding, is nothing but dust in disguise.
Yet man lives as though he will never die. We build mansions on earth, but forget the narrowness of the grave. We hoard gold and silver, but forget that we will be wrapped in a shroud with empty hands.
We chase name, status, and wealth — yet the soul within us is starving.
“Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, adornment and boasting among yourselves, and rivalry in wealth and children…”(Surah Al-Hadid 57:20)
A World Consumed by Greed
We live in a world ruled by greed. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned: “If the son of Adam had a valley full of gold, he would want a second one. Nothing will fill his mouth but dust.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
This greed makes us:
Lie without shame.
Earn through interest (sood), despite Allah’s war declaration.
Eat the rights of the poor and the orphan.
Betray our sisters by denying them their rightful inheritance.
Swear false oaths and deceive others with the tongue Allah gifted us.
And we forget…“Every soul shall taste death.” (Surah Aali Imran 3:185)
Stealing Inheritance: Betraying the Trust of Allah
One of the greatest injustices today is the denial of inheritance — especially to sisters and daughters. Families divide property quietly, leaving the rightful heirs behind with silence and sorrow.
“For men is a share of what the parents and close relatives leave, and for women is a share…” (Surah An-Nisa 4:7)
Denying it is not only a sin. It is betrayal, oppression, and a curse. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever wrongfully takes even a handspan of land will have it hung around his neck on the Day of Judgment.” (Bukhari, 2454)
Imagine denying your own sister — the one who grew up beside you — and facing her in front of Allah.
The Crime of Interest (Sood): Declaring War Against Allah
Many today justify interest as “necessary,” but no one can escape what Allah has clearly forbidden. “O you who believe! Give up what remains of interest, if you are truly believers. If you do not, then be informed of a war from Allah and His Messenger.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:278–279)
Can you survive a war against the Creator of the heavens and the earth?
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Allah has cursed the one who takes riba, the one who gives it, the one who writes it down, and the one who witnesses it.” (Muslim, 1598)
This curse follows the wealth you earn, the food you eat, and the soul you carry — until it reaches the grave.
Lying, Deceit and False Oaths: A Road to Destruction
To win land, to gain power, to grow in status — many lie today as if Allah does not hear. “Woe to those who lie to make others laugh. Woe to them! Woe to them!” (Abu Dawood, 4990)
“The truthful leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to Paradise. While lying leads to sin, and sin leads to Hellfire.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
A single lie on earth may grant you profit — but in the Akhirah, it may cost you your soul.
The Grave: The First Stage of the Hereafter
You may escape accountability in this world — but not in the grave. “The grave is either a garden from the gardens of Paradise or a pit from the pits of Hell.” (Tirmidhi, 2460)
In the grave:
Your mansions won’t follow you.
Your lies will turn into darkness.
Your unjust wealth will become fire in your belly.
Your sister’s silent tears will rise as evidence.
And your soul will be questioned by two mighty angels — with no lawyer to defend you.
The Day of Judgment: Where Justice Prevails. On that Day:
The scales will be set.
Every hidden secret will be exposed.
Every atom of good and evil will be revealed.
“That Day, people will be shown their deeds. So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.” (Surah Az-Zalzalah 99:6–8)
And Allah will say: “This Day, every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. No injustice today!” (Surah Ghafir 40:17)
Return Before It’s Too Late
O soul that is drowning in dunya — return to your Lord. Repent.
If you:
Have denied someone’s right
Consumed or enabled sood
Lied, oppressed, or cheated
Built wealth on injustice
Then stop. Make amends. Seek forgiveness. And clean your record before it’s read aloud. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever has wronged his brother in anything, let him seek forgiveness today — before a Day comes when there will be no dinar or dirham.” (Bukhari, 6534)
A Final Reflection
This world is a test — not a trophy.
It is temporary — not eternal.
It is dust — not divine.
What we build here must not be built on injustice. Because on the Day of Judgment, only justice will stand. So give the rightful their due.
Free yourself from sood.
Speak the truth even if it costs you.
Fear Allah more than the world.
And live for the Akhirah — because that is forever.
“But as for one who feared standing before his Lord and restrained himself from evil desires — then Paradise will be his home.” (Surah An-Nazi’at 79:40-41)
