Work on new building going on at snail’s pace, allege locals
Pulwama: Govt High School Manchama in Tral area of Pulwama district is operating from a three roomed structure due to which both students and teachers are facing huge problems.
Locals from the area said that school lacks basic infrastructure due to which the students studying there are facing many difficulties.
The school has an enrolment of about 150 students who are crammed in three rooms, exposing the educational standards of the department, they said.
They said that students are being taught in a tin shed while the school does have a headmaster for the last six months.
The school lacks every basic facility and has no facilities to be termed as an educational institution.
They said the basic issue is that despite the passage of about two decades since upgradation, authorities have failed to construct any other structure at the site.
The school is facing accommodation crunch and the teachers here can’t provide proper facilities to the students enrolled here, they said.
The school has only three rooms where teachers have to adjust around 150 students and how can two or three teachers teach students of three classes in a single room simultaneously, they asked.
Basharat Ahmed, a local resident said that the government focuses more on showcasing achievements in the education sector but there is no development visible on the ground level at most of the spots.
Although the staff members are doing their best to provide quality education to the enrolled students but the dearth of basic facilities has got them concerned, having no answers to the anguish of the students, he said.
Compared to other Government schools, the school has a good number of students enrolled which makes it imperative for the concerned authorities to take immediate steps in order to provide them quality facilities, he said.
All students studying here belong to financially weak families so authorities must take immediate steps to ensure quality education for these poor students, he said.
The locals said that they have in the past apprised the concerned authorities about the issue several times following which new building was announced but it hasn’t been completed yet.
They said construction work was also started before two years but it seems it will take years more for completion
The requested concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest so that poor students won’t suffer anymore.
The locals requested them to complete the building at an earliest along with fencing and provide adequate staff especially headmaster at an earliest.
Meanwhile, an official of the education department said that they will direct concerned construction agency to expedite the work so that students will get sigh of relief.
