Pulwama:The residents, especially youth in different villages of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have united for a cause. The youth have come together to clean the water bodies in their respective villages.
The residents of Dadsara  Tral said that a volunteer youth group with the support of other locals kick-started a cleanliness drive and are cleaning every water body in their village.
They said that the group has been conducting cleanliness drive frequently in the village to clean the water bodies and they have achieved success to a great extent.
Similar steps have been taken by youth in Lalgam and Nowpora area of Tral where youth have got united to clean the water bodies in their area.
“The youth of the Tral area are committed to rejuvenating the stream and initiating a cleanliness drive, removing significant waste such as plastic bottles, polythene bags and other non-biodegradable materials,” said Asgar Ahmad, a resident of Dadsara.
“Water is life and everyone must make efforts to restore the water bodies in their areas,” he said.
“Water bodies are being cleaned to a level where their water can be used at least for domestic purposes,” said Nayeem Ahmad, another local resident.
“As we are witnessing the impact of the climate change intensifies, the need to conserve and protect our water resources has never been more urgent,” he added.
“Water scarcity, declining quality, and extreme weather patterns are direct consequences of global climate shifts, affecting millions worldwide. To mitigate these challenges, sustainable water management practices must be prioritised,” another youth said.
Locals while praising the efforts of the youth said that majority of the water bodies have been cleaned while the rest are being cleared.
They also requested the government to extend support to such initiatives so that all water bodies can be saved.
They said that both government and public are responsible for the deterioration of the water bodies as they have failed to take care of these precious resources.
“If the water bodies see further damage, the situation will reach to a point when water won’t be available even for drinking purposes. It is time to act now and stop throwing waste in water bodies,” they said.
They requested other villages as well to follow the same trend and clean their water bodies themselves.
