Pulwama: The residents of around three dozen villages continue to suffer due to drying of the famous Bulbul spring in Newa area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district for the last two months.

The residents of Newa and its adjacent areas said that several water supply schemes are dependent on the spring but it dried up two months ago due to which people continue to face problems.

Mohammad Maqbool, a local resident said that he has never witnessed drying up of this spring in his whole life but this year it has dried up completely.

He said that water of the spring was being used for drinking purposes even without filtration but due to climate change for which humans are responsible, it has dried up completely.

Abdul Rashid Dar, another local resident of the area said that people of the area have been suffering for want of the water as this spring was the main water source of many schemes.

He said that this is for the first time that spring has fully dried up that has caused immense inconvenience to the locals.

The locals said that there is an immediate need for a well that will act as a source of water till there will be abundant rain or snowfall.

They said that the ground water department had already visited the spot for construction of the well even as land was identified, however, work wasn’t taken up.

Meanwhile, an official of the PHE department said that due to rains in the last 24 hours, water has started to get restored in the spring and if there will be more rains, water level is likely to increase.
