Locals demolish structure in Kunzer raised by a mentally deranged man terming it the holy ‘Kaaba’
Srinagar, Feb 6: Locals in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district demolished a structure resembling the holy Kaaba, which was built by a mentally deranged man in Waripora village of Kunzar in north Kashmir.
The man, had reportedly been claiming to be Sufi saint Sheikh Nooruddin Wali and had invited people to visit his site if they were unable to travel for Umrah or Hajj.
Following concerns raised by religious scholars, including Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, who had called for his immediate arrest, the individual was taken into custody.
Officials have stated that he will be sent to a mental health facility for evaluation before any further legal proceedings. [KNT]
