Tukroo Shopian residents demand road widening
Shopian: The residents of Tukroo and its adjacent areas in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded widening of a vital road in their area.
The residents of the area said that a leading road from Tukroo to Poshpora and connecting Nazneen pora, Adoora and Fruit Mandi Shopian is very narrow due to which they have been facing problems while commuting.
They said that the road is so narrow that even two vehicles are facing difficulties to pass through the road.
Gulzar Ahmad, a local resident said that the road has a good traffic rush but it frequently faces traffic jams due to its narrowness.
He said that during emergencies and harvest season it takes hours for the people to travel on this road which is just few kilometres in length.
Farooq Ahmad, another local said that they have been demanding the widening of road for the last many years, but their demand has been shelved and locals continue to face problems.
He said that farmers of at least three villages have to struggle to transport their produce during the peak harvesting season as this road serves as a vital link, connecting the villages to the Fruit Mandi Shopian.
Locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but nothing has been done so far.
The locals have now sought the attention of MLA Shopian and Deputy Commissioner Shopian in this regard.
