Locals rue dilapidated condition of Awantipora bridge

Say it can prove fatal anytime

Pulwama: A big hole in the main bridge connecting Awantipora with Tral in Chandigram in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district can prove fatal anytime, say locals demanding the immediate attention of the higher ups.
The residents of Chandigram said that the main bridge connecting Awantipora and Tral was constructed just a few years back but the condition of the bridge deteriorated in no time.
They said that there is a big hole on one side of the bridge that can prove fatal anytime.
Mohammad Ashraf, a local resident said that the bridge can prove fatal anytime as locals know about the hole but others who pass through the bridge are unaware about it and they can become the victims and can fall directly into the canal anytime.
He said that pedestrians including children and elderly people have been using this bridge and the very fact seems dangerous.
Arshid Ahmad, another local resident said that everyday dozens of officers have been using this bridge but nobody has bothered to take cognizance of the issue.
He said that they have met officials of R&B in this regard but no action has been taken as of now.
The locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but they are yet to see any action on ground.
They requested higher ups especially Deputy Commissioner Pulwama to look into the matter and take immediate steps in this regard.
Meanwhile Executive Engineer R&B Department Awantipora, Manzoor Ahmad said that the department has prepared the estimates and very soon work will be started on the bridge.
He urged people to take precautions till work on the bridge is completed.
