Locals demand repairs on main Kakapora bridge in Pulwama
Pulwama: The main bridge on the river Jhelum connecting Pulwama and Shopian with Srinagar in the Kakapora area of Pulwama district is in shambles, locals alleged Wednesday.
The residents of Kakapora area said that the bridge is full of potholes due to which people travelling on it are witnessing troubles.
Rafiq Ahmad, a local resident said that the bridge is full of potholes and these holes often remain full of water and dirt due to which people travelling on it face inconvenience.
He said that due to bad condition of the bridge, vehicles travelling over it also get damaged.
Ghulam Hassan Pandit, another local resident said that the bridge is being used by people of at least three districts to reach Srinagar but the bad condition of the bridge is giving tough time to people especially elderly, patients and students.
He said that people from Pir Panchal area visiting Srinagar are also using the same route and despite having such an importance no attention is being given towards it.
The locals said that they have brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but no attention has been given towards it.
They said that locals on their own have carried the repair process by filling the holes but it doesn’t last long and the government isn’t taking up this issue seriously.
Meanwhile, when contacted an official of the R&B department said that ware coating of the bridge has got damaged but macadamisation under minus temperature isn’t possible.
He said that repairing process will be taken up soon while it will macadanised in coming season.
