They said that cab stands are now located at the edge of town on each side but there is no arrangements for people who have to go through town for work or shopping purposes.
Tariq Ahmad, a resident of Zainapora who is a govt employee said that their stand is at least 2 kms away from main Shopian and it is not easy to go and come back to stand on daily basis in this bone chilling winter.
He said that stakeholders should have been taken into confidence as people have been facing inconveniences as intra town traffic facilities are not available.
Gulzar Ahmad, another resident of Shopian town said that if they have to go anywhere, they have to walk long distances to avail the cab services.
He said that elderly people, children and physically challenged people are the suffering the most.
The decision to shift cab stands was part of the district administration’s traffic decongestion plan that was hailed, however, in the absence of intra-town transport, the travellers are put to tremendous inconveniences, the locals said.
They said that few e rickshaws were started for some time but later they too vanished from the roads.
They said that shifting cab stands is a welcome step to decongest traffic in the town but there is a need for having intra town traffic facilities so that needy can avail it.
They requested higher ups especially Deputy Commissioner Shopian and ARTO Shopian for their intervention in this regard.
