Srinagar: Traders Association Lal Chowk (TALC), formerly known as the Amira Kadal Association, has denied any merger with any trade organisation, a statement issued here said.
The statement said that TALC has been the cornerstone of trade and commerce in Lal Chowk, Srinagar, for nearly six decades.
Established in 1964, our association has evolved to become a robust and influential body, boasting a strong membership base of more than 450 shopkeepers, the statement issued by the spokesman of the organisation said Wednesday.
He said that the our association is dedicated to promoting and protecting the interests of our members, while also contributing to the overall economic development and prosperity of the region. With a rich history and a strong commitment to serving our members, the Traders Association Lal Chowk remains a vital part of the Lal Chowk business ecosystem.
The association’s president, Mohammad Iqbal Khan, who was elected on March 9, 2024, convened an emergency meeting where all executive members were present. The meeting addressed concerns regarding a press conference held by some shopkeepers, who falsely claimed a merger with an ad-hoc body of another association, the spokesman said.
The elected representatives of the Traders Association Lal Chowk unequivocally reject these claims made by self-styled representatives. Notably, these individuals were part of the previous body, holding positions such as president, vice president, senior vice president, finance, and executive members, the statement said.
“We urge all stakeholders to be cautious of such misinformation and reassure our members that the Traders Association Lal Chowk remains committed to protecting and promoting their interests,” the statement said.
