NTPHC in south Kashmir lacks staff, other basic facilities: Locals allege
Anantnag: Established almost two decades ago, a New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) in Naina Sangam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district is painting a grim picture of the health scenario as the Centre lacks all basic facilities, thus leaving the patients to suffer.
Residents told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that a NTPHC was established here 20 years back but never ever a doctor was posted here and it continues to lack in all the basic facilities.
They said that residents of over one dozen villages are suffering due to the callous attitude of authorities towards the centre.
Abbas Ahmad, a local resident said that except immunisation nothing is being done at the hospital due to which the locals have to look out for healthcare facilities in other areas.
He said that the hospital is close to the highway and caters several villages but there are no facilities available at the health facility.
The locals said that health centre lacks entire basic infrastructure required for its smooth functioning and just three staff members were posted here who involved in immunisation only.
“No medicine even a first aid facility isn’t available here due to which we are forced to shift every patient to Sub district hospital Bijbehara which is around 6 kilometres from here” they added.
They added that only one class IV employee is now posted here and you can imagine how the PHC is functioning.
Authorities have kept this NTPHC only on papers as it has a building with no laboratory and other basic facilities, said Javid Ahmad, a local resident.
Despite several appeals to the higher ups, nothing has been done so far on ground, he said
The locals have now appealed concerned authorities especially MLA Bijbehara to look into the matter so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
