The higher objectives of life

By: Imran Reshi
As we observe and examine our surroundings, everyone is busy and engaged in one or the other activity. Everyone is struggling for the achievement of his/her ambitions or endeavouring to fulfil his/her social or moral obligations.
On the one side man is busy in earning a livelihood in order to serve his family and satisfying his ends by one or the other means as is feasible for him. Similarly on the other hand, women folk are busy in domestic activities to serve their family in the best possible way.
Children are busy in studying and putting in their best possible efforts to excel in their academic field. Thus, everyone is so much engaged in his daily routine activities that we hardly get time to think and observe the reality of life. Our knowledge and acumen falls short sometimes to assess and determine the riddle, “Why do we do, what we do”.
A child is sent to school for elementary education for some years, then to middle school followed by higher secondary school, then for higher education from college or a university. Almost half of his life span is consumed by education and then he is fixed and gets married and then taking care of children and rest of the family and finally the angel of death knock at the door.
The same scene happens with each and every individual irrespective of his gender. The only difference among each other is some spend a happy and prosperous life while others have very simple and low-key type of life span. However, the cycle goes on and on from thousands of years without any discrimination on the basis of gender, religion, region or language.
Is this the sole purpose of life that a person should spent it anyways, in one or the other way or there is any special purpose of the same?
Many people believe that earning a good fortune in life is the purpose of life. While others believe having a lot of degrees in the field of education is the objective of life. Even some people believe that life is all about enjoyment and amusement.
Life is a onetime gift and it must be enjoyed at its fullest even if the person or neighbor residing next to you is suffering through pain and inflictions. Having a lot of wealth, maintaining standard of the elite class by the collection of fancy and sophisticated domestic items, cars, SUV’s, electronic gadgets and so on, is considered the final and highest objective of life.
So far as I my knowledge and observation regarding the world around, is concerned, I have determined that the best life is which is spent for the welfare and betterment of the humanity. Only the life which is spent in bringing peace and prosperity for the human beings irrespective of any discrimination is worth to be labelled as well spent life.
The life which is spent just for satisfying one’s own needs and aspirations is forgotten once a person expires. But the life spent in bringing the positive changes and reforms in the society for its upliftment and prosperity is the life which is remembered even after a person passes away from this universe to the heavenly abode.
Moreover, the service to the mankind is highly regarded and appreciated before Allah (SWT). The person close to the hearts of mankind is the person close to the Almighty.
For achieving this purpose, a person needs not necessarily to be any politician or bureaucrats, any renowned businessman or a high rank government official. This purpose of life can be achieved by a person irrespective of his socio-economic status at a given period of time. A person can acquire this milestone even just being a common man.
All we need to achieve the purpose of serving the society at individual and common level is to establish within oneself a firm belief of observing moral and religious values. Following the religious and social preaching and instructions in utmost consistent manner.
The objective of an ideal life demands the development of love and concern towards the people around him/her without any discrimination on the basis of caste, creed or color.
As some poet has mentioned that, “Izzat ke Qabil hai Bas Wo Insaan, Auron Ki Mushkil Ho Jis Se Asaan”, means only that person or human being is entitled for respect and love in the society who endeavors are ensuring the ease in the affairs of the society whether at individual level or at general level.
And that person is definitely remembered even after his/her demise, with great love and dignity. Thus, making himself immortal forever in the hearts and minds of whole humanity especially in the hearts and minds of people he was dealing with in his lifetime.
On account of this reality and purpose of life, parents and teachers and other significant persons are requested to inculcate a sense of love and service, in their wards towards the society and the whole humanity at large.
Please, don’t confine their innocent minds and hearts to just getting degree after degree just for the purpose of collecting wealth and others things whose benefit remains limited to one’s own self.
When such sense of love and helping each other’s is developed in the youth of the society, it will not only bring peace and prosperity to the society rather that person is will be highly regarded and rewarded in the court of Almighty Allah and in the society he name will be mentioned with high regard and dignity.
For this we need to observe and ensure imparting and inculcating moral and religious education in our youth at family and school level. Only then we can achieve peace and prosperity at individual level and at society level as well. And above all, the purpose of one’s life can also be achieved.
