Deficit rainfall in J&K increases to 72% in over 2 months
Srinagar: Despite frequent snowfall in higher reaches for the last two weeks, Jammu and Kashmir continues to witness deficit rainfall with the local Meteorological department (MeT) stating that the deficiency has gone up to 72 per cent from October 01, 2024 to December 04, 2024.
Data prepared by the MeT has revealed that against the normal precipitation of 70.5 mm, J&K has recorded a rainfall of only 19.9 mm during the last over two months period.
The data reveals that the majority of the stations across J&K recorded a deficient rainfall in between 60 per cent to 99 per cent during the period.
Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, has recorded a deficient rainfall of 82 per cent while Shopian in South Kashmir has recorded the highest deficit of 96 per cent during the last over two months.
As per the data, Samba is the only station above normal precipitation has been recorded as against the normal rainfall of 18.1 mm, it has recorded 47 mm, marking an increase of 160 per cent during the period.
Kulgam, Budgam and Poonch stations in J&K have recorded a deficit rainfall of above 90 per cent while Anantnag, Kishtwar, Pulwama and Udhampur have recorded a deficit of above 80 per cent.
As per the data, Baramulla, Ganderbal and Ramban have recorded a deficit rainfall of above 70 per cent.
