Police arrests three drug peddlers in Srinagar and Kulgam
Srinagar: Police arrested two drug peddlers in Srinagar and another at Kulgam, besides recovering contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
He said that a police party during naka checking at Syed Mansoor Bridge Zaldagar intercepted a vehicle (Venue) bearing registration number JK01AX-7639, who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.
During search, 11 grams of Brown Sugar like substance concealed in a polythene bag was recovered from the Dashboard of the said vehicle. The accused identified as Rakib Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Salam Dar resident of Rajouri Kadal Srinagar has been arrested on the spot.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 51/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station MR Gunj and further investigation has been initiated.
Moreover, during the course of the investigation of case FIR No. 134/2024 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Safakadal, a police party after unearthing of forward and backward linkages related to the previously arrested accused, another notorious drug peddler has been arrested.
He has been identified as Mohammad Irfan Sheikh son of Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh resident of Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh. 2.51 grams of Herion has been recovered from his possession. Investigation is going on to establish further connections.
Later, police arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A police party at a checkpoint established at Nipora Crossing intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag coming from Nipora Link Road towards Nipora Crossing, who after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot. However, he was chased and apprehended tactfully. After search, 9.6 Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance filled in the said bag was recovered from his possession. The said person has been identified as Akshay Kumar son of Kartar Chand resident of Markoli, Samba, the spokesman added.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 261/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at police station Qazigund and further investigation has been taken up, he said.
