Pulwama: The residents of Gulshan pora area in Tral hamlet of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the PHE department which according to locals has failed to provide drinking water facility to the area.
The residents of Gulshan pora said that they are suffering for the last several decades in absence of any proper potable water facility in the area.
In absence of any drinking water facility, we are forced to drink contaminated water of the canal due to which water borne diseases can break out any time in the area, they said.
They said that they have to travel for kilometers to fetch water and that too is contaminated.
They added that their children and elderly people often fall sick and the reason behind it is that the locals are forced to consume contaminated water.
Pamposh Ahmad, a local resident said that the area was connected to a scheme but the water of the scheme wasn’t fit for consumption.
He said that in winters locals have been suffering as it isn’t easy to bring water as the population is residing on a steep slope.
They said that concerned authorities haven’t taken their pleas seriously and have been ignoring their pleas.
They said that despite bringing the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but nothing has been done on ground.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps in this regard.
