  Man-animal conflict cases record a rise in south Kashmir’s Tral

Locals have sought intervention of authorities

Pulwama: Panic continues to grip several villages in Tral sub division of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district as cases of man-animal conflict are on rise in the area, locals said Monday.
People hailing from different areas of Tral said that there is fear among the people of area as several persons were injured by wild bears in the area during the last few months.
They said that the movement of wild animals has been reported near residential areas in the recent few weeks.
“We are in constant fear and due to fear we are not venturing out of our houses as attacks of wild animals are very frequent now,” they locals said.
“Dozens of people have got injured after attacks by wild animals and number of such incidents is on the rise, they added.
They said that recently a minor girl was killed by a wild animal in Gulshanpora area of Tral while another minor was rescued in Koil area of Tral recently.
The locals have nor requested the authorities to capture the animals roaming in the area at an earliest so that people can heave a sigh of relief.
Wildlife officials while acknowledging that such cases are on the rise said that Tral is almost surrounded by forests from all sides and wild animals living in these forests come to residential areas seeking food etc.
They added that many teams from the wildlife department are on the job to capture the wild beasts roaming in the area.
They said that they have installed CCTV cameras and cages in some areas to check the movement of wild beasts.
They further added that people must follow advisories issued and should cooperate with the teams deputed by the wildlife department.
“People need to take precautions and avoid roaming alone especially during morning and evening hours and all possible steps are being taken for the safety of public along with their property,” they added.
