Landslides due to water leakage creates panic among Nownagri, Chandgam residents
Pulwama: The residents of Nownagri and Chandgam villages in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the authorities for failing to take cognizance of landslides due to water leakage in the area.
The residents of both these villages said that water is coming from Karewas in Chandgam and Nownagri villages on Pulwama-Chakoora road due to which they have been facing problems.
The locals who staged protests said that a water tank has been constructed in Karewa of the Nownagri area, however, since last two years water was leaking at the site which has now started creating problems for them as their houses are facing damages.
They said since the past one year the water flow coming out of the Karewa along the road has increased which has led to landslides in Nownagri.
They added that the water coming out flows through the road but due to prevailing weather conditions, the road becomes slippery due to which accidents are taking place every day.
The residents of Kumar Mohalla Chandgam while echoing the same voice said that since last few days the water from Karewa is now seeping into the residential locality which has put their property in danger.
They said that landslides have become a routine and it can lead to any major untoward incident anytime.
They said that if the government won’t take steps immediately, the road connecting dozens of villages can also collapse besides that the residents living along the road are also in danger.
The locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
