Churat Kulgam residents protest unavailability of potable water

Kulgam: The residents of Churath area of Devsar hamlet in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district staged a protest against the unavailability of drinking water in the area.
The protestors while raising slogans said that they have been suffering in absence of water for the last several months, but no attention is being given towards their demand.
Zakir Ahmad, a protestor said that Churath residents have been suffering for the last several months as authorities have failed in providing them drinking water.
He said that they are forced to consume contaminated water in the absence of such facilities due to which there is a chance that water borne diseases can break out.
Sakeena Banoo, a local woman said that the government has been claiming the it is providing water to every household but on ground the situation is different.
She said that women folk have been suffering more as they have to take long distances to bring water for drinking and other household needs.
The protestors also said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
They have now sought the attention of the concerned MLA along with officials of the concerned department so that their genuine concerns are addressed.
Meanwhile, as the protestors refused to relent, officials along with police visited the spot where protestors had blocked the main Kulgam-Qazigund road and pacified them that their issue will be resolved following which the protest was called off.
