Lelhara Pulwama residents demand resumption of work on bridge on Nallah Romshi
Pulwama: The residents of Lelhara area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded resumption of work on bridge constructed on Nallah Romshi in Lelhara.
The residents of the area said that the bridge, which connects Pulwama district with the Srinagar-Jammu highway via Lelhara, was damaged in the 2014 floods.
They said that after the floods, the administration set up a temporary bridge to restore connectivity, however, the temporary structure according to them has consistently led to traffic jams, causing inconvenience to the locals.
Zahid Ahmad, a local resident said that after repeated requests to the government, a new bridge was sanctioned and it was tendered out in 2023.
He said that work was taken up but it was later halted due to unknown reasons.
Sameer Ahmad, another local said that the work was going on for a few months but it was going on at a snail’s pace.
He said that the bridge connects dozens of villages with each other and authorities must take up work at the earliest.
Locals said that they have brought the issue of resumption and speeding up of work on the bridge, but it seems their pleas are falling on deaf ears.
They have sought attention of MLA Pampore and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
Meanwhile, an official of the R&B said that work was put on halt temporarily to relocate HT line passing through the area.
He said that work will resume as soon as the line would relocated and work on the bridge will be completed as soon as possible.
