Zantrag woman earns livelihood with the help of NRLM

Pulwama: A 23-year old woman from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has been earning livelihood for herself and helping others to earn a living with the help of NRLM
Asmat Bashir a resident of Zantrag, an upper area of Khrew in Pulwama has been associated with self-help groups since 2017.
Asmat said that she joined the self-help groups in 2017 after she was informed by the department as the officials had visited her village and informed the residents about the scheme.
Asmat said that she completed her B.A besides being part of the group and earlier with the help of group she brought a cow and that helped their family to manage the day to day expenses.
With the help of NRLM, she took a loan on which they brought a truck that is driven by her relative and both have been earning their livelihood very well, she added.
Asmat said that they have recently taken another truck with the help of NRLM and that is helping them further.
She said that NRLM is the best option for women folk to help their families in earning their livelihood.
There are hundreds of women in rural areas who are dependent on their family for everything but they must take benefit of the government schemes to become financially independent, she added.
She said that by joining NRLM, she isn’t earning livelihood for her family but helping others too.
