Pulwama: The industrialists in Ukhoo village known as pencil village of India have demanded uninterrupted power supply as they have been getting unscheduled power supply since last few weeks, the local entrepreneurs have alleged.
Industrialists working at Ukhoo village said that they have been facing problems due to unscheduled power supply since the last few weeks.
They said that they have been supplying raw materials across India for pencils and even PM Modi has praised the efforts of this local industry.
They added that their work relies on electricity but unscheduled power cuts hit them hard and they face problems while fulfilling their commitments to pencil manufacturers.
Firdous Ahmad, a unit holder said that there should be 24×7 power supply in the entire area but the unscheduled power cuts have become a norm.
He said that they had already brought the issue to the notice of concerned authorities who assured them that steps will be taken but nothing has been done as of now.
Irshad Ahmad, another industry owner said that unit holders were paying electricity dues properly and on time and yet PDD has resorted to power cuts.
“The government had promised it would supply uninterrupted electricity to this area but the current unscheduled cuts have proved that their promises proved as hoax,” he said.
He said that a grid station falls nearby to the area and needs a little support of the PDD so that a hot line is commissioned for the for Ukhoo industrial area.
The unit holders said that they have high hopes that the new government will look into this genuine demand and will help to run the industrial area smoothly where hundreds of people are earning their livelihood.
They requested concerned authorities especially LG and CM to look into the matter and direct concerned authorities to make immediate arrangements so that scheduled power supply will be available and unit holders won’t suffer anymore.
