Pulwama: Dangling electric wires tied to trees, worn out poles are posing a threat to the lives of people as well as to their property in several villages of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, locals alleged Wednesday.
The residents of Rakh and Zahid Bagh areas of Pulwama district alleged that they are living under constant fear due to low lying electric wires tied with trees in their villages. They said that at most places the electric wires have been tied with decaying electric poles.
They said that the electric lines touch roofs of houses and trees on roads posing risk to life and property as the overhead transmission lines are lying very low.
“We have been requesting the concerned department to replace the dangling and damaged electric wires and poles but our pleas fell on deaf ears,” said Ghulam Mohammad Mir, a resident of Rakh village.
He said that in several back to village programmes every year we have demanded electric poles and wires in the area but on ground nothing has been done.
“All low tension wires in our village have been tied with trees in absence of poles due to which the wires are are very weak which often get damaged,” said Javid Ahmad, a resident of Zahid Bagh.
The residents of both villages while echoing the same voices said that they are living under constant fear due to low lying wires in the area.
They said that LT wires often fall down in the area and anytime it can lead to a big mishap in the area for which PDD will be responsible.
The locals claimed that they have taken up the issues with the administration several times but on ground nothing has been done.
The locals requested the higher ups to look into the matter and provide new electric wires and poles besides improving the overall power infrastructure in the area.
Meanwhile, an official of the PDD acknowledged that power infrastructure needs to be enhanced in the area and the department is working to replace wires and poles in these areas.
