POEM: Autumn
By: Syed Mustafa Ahmad
Autumn has slowly crept into our lives
From mornings to evenings, there is chill in the air
The wounded souls gasp for air and the burning hearts crave for ice-blocks
In the graveyards, the flowers of different hues wither to remind us of the fleeting nature of life
In the rivers, fish team up to remain dormant, away from the gaze of the fishermen
The paddy fields are cleared and the children are leveling the ground of their dreams
The Cicadas keep making noises to wake up us from the deep slumber
The sun is tired and the moon is dull
While the stars of the other world shine with the brightest light
In Autumn, life swings a pendulum
The extremes of life come forth and the ephemeral nature of life is fully understood
Autumn is all about living as well as dying
