Patalbagh Gujer Colony residents seek clean-up of Municipal dumping site

Pulwama: The residents of Gujar Colony Patalbagh area of Pampore are raising alarm over a municipal dumping site established by the Pampore municipality, which has become a severe health hazard for the community. The site, intended for regular waste disposal, is now being misused for the disposal of dead animals and other waste, turning the area into a public health crisis, locals alleged Tuesday.
Locals report a pervasive foul odor, making it unbearable for families, especially the elderly and children, who are falling ill due to the unhygienic conditions. The situation has escalated to the point where residents feel trapped in their homes, unable to escape the stench and health risks associated with the dumping ground.
What was once fertile saffron land is now a neglected wasteland, prompting outrage among the community. Residents have come together to call for immediate action, urging authorities to address the misuse of the site and implement proper waste management practices.
“We cannot live like this anymore,” said a concerned local resident. “Our health is deteriorating, and the environment is suffering. We need help,” he added.
The community is appealing to local officials to intervene and restore their area to a safe and healthy living environment. They believe that with swift action, the situation can be remedied, ensuring the well-being of all residents.

Meanwhile, a senior BJP leader and District President Pulwama Lateef Ahmed Bhat urged the local administration to prioritize public health issues affecting the residents of Gujer Colony Patelbagh area of Pampore.
Highlighting the urgent need for action, Bhat emphasized the importance of providing justice to the community to safeguard their lives against various diseases. He called for immediate measures to ensure the well-being of the populace and improve health services in the area.
