Hospital near completion, to be inaugurate soon, says official

Kulgam: Even after a lapse of around two decades, the Sub-district hospital building in Qaimoh area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district is awaiting completion causing hardships to the local residents.

The locals from Qaimoh said that the new building for PHC Qaimoh which was later upgraded to SDH on request of locals was sanctioned during the PDP-Congress government in 2003 and since then it hasn’t been completed.

They said PHC was upgraded to a 50 bed SDH and a building was to be constructed at a cost of Rs 19.34 crores.

They said that the construction of the building was started in 2003 and in seven years, only pillars of the building were constructed and the work was stopped due to shortage of funds.

“But now, almost 21 years have passed since the construction work was started, authorities are yet to complete the construction work due to which thousands of people of Qaimoh and its adjacent areas are affected,” said Tahir Ahmad, a local resident.

He said that in absence of basic health care facilities, people are forced to visit private clinics of doctors and other government district or sub district hospitals for minor ailments.

Locals said they have taken up the issue with the concerned authorities several times and they have been hearing about deadlines which were never met.

The locals once again requested higher ups to look into the matter and complete the project so that locals won’t suffer anymore.

Meanwhile, a health official said that due to paucity of funds besides some other issues, it took so long to complete the project.

He said that the interior work of the building is near completion and it will be inaugurated soon.
