Mandoora Tral residents decry shortage of potable water

Pulwama: The residents of Mandoora area of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded availability of potable water in their area.
The residents of the area said that since 1985, they have been waiting to get a water supply scheme sanctioned for the area but nothing has been done even now.
Bilal Ahmad, a local resident said that there are no water supply facilities to many households in the area since decades and people here are dependent on water procured from tube wells.
He said that due to the ongoing heat wave, the level of water has gone down in these tube wells due to which they have no water facilities available.
Mohammad Iqbal, another local said that the government has constructed a water supply scheme in the area but it has been left incomplete even though only some minor civil works are to be conducted to make it functional.
He said that months have passed but these minor works haven’t been taken up so that the scheme could have seen the light of the day.
He said that currently locals have been suffering as they are forced to take long routes to bring water and at times consume contaminated water.
The locals said that they have brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
They have sought the attention of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
Meanwhile, an official of the Jal Shakti Department department assured that scheme will be made functional soon.
