School has just three rooms for 115 students of nine classes

Kulgam: Government Middle School in Nigeenpora Kund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district is lacking proper infrastructure as the school has just three rooms where over a hundred students of nine classes are being taught, locals said Friday.

The residents of the area said that this far flung area of Kulgam has been neglected as students of the area are suffering.

They said that the school was established in the 60’s and was later upgraded to middle level but no infrastructure has been upgraded.

Maroof Ahmed, a local resident said that school is currently functioning from three rooms only but that is not enough to teach students of nine classes.

He said that people of the area are financially weak and can’t afford to send their children to private schools.

Arif Khan, another local said that there are just two rooms where students are taught as one is used for official work and functions as office for the staff.

He said that one can understand how students of two to three classes can be taught in a single room.

Locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times, but to no avail.

They said that education of poor students is getting affected due to unavailability of building and other infrastructure.

They, however, added that teachers posted there have been working hard that is why the roll of the school is around 115.

They said that whenever they bring this issue notice of authorities, they assure that new building will be constructed soon but their assurances have proved hoax on ground.

They once again requested higher ups including Deputy commissioner Kulgam and Chief Education officer Kulgam to look into the matter and take appropriate steps immediately so that students won’t suffer.
