JKOBCWA meets LG Manoj Sinha
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Other Backward Classes Welfare Association (JKOBCWA) Monday met the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, at Raj Bhawan to discuss several pressing issues affecting the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community in the Union Territory.
The members who were part of the delegation include Shafi Shama(President, JKOBCWA), Mohammad Iqbal Ahangar(Chairman, JKOBCWA), Advocate Shabir Ahmad Najar (General Secretary, JKOBCWA) , Basharat Ahmad Najar(Spokesperson, JKOBCWA), Asif Jan(Media Secretary JKOBCWA), Bashir Ahmad (Organiser, JKOBCWA) and other stakeholders.
The meeting was held in a constructive and cordial atmosphere, where representatives from the JKOBCWA presented key concerns and proposals to Shri Manoj Sinha. The topics of discussion included:
The Association requested the alignment of income slab criteria for OBCs with the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) guidelines, to ensure that the community can benefit from reservations and other welfare measures.
JKOBCWA also proposed the introduction of lifetime validity for OBC certificates, eliminating the need for periodic renewals and simplifying the process for beneficiaries.
The meeting discussed the interchangeable use of the nomenclature of Lohar and Ahangar, seeking to resolve any disparities in the treatment of these two names which are actually the same within the OBC community.
Association called for an increase in reservation for the OBC community to two digits, which would provide more equitable opportunities in education, employment, and other areas.
JKOBCWA requested the establishment of a Backward Commission for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, with representation from local OBC communities, to better address their concerns and interests.
The Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha, expressed his appreciation for the Association’s efforts and assured them that the issues raised would be given due consideration. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the equitable development of all communities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding and agreement to continue dialogue and work towards the betterment of the OBC community in the Union Territory.
