Empowering JK: The Digital Revolution
KV Feature
In the last four years, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has witnessed a remarkable digital transformation that has not only accelerated development but also ushered in an era of transparency and accountability in governance. The advent of the digital revolution has revolutionized the landscape of public services, making them more accessible, efficient, and corruption-free than ever before.
Before 2019, J&K lagged behind in terms of digital infrastructure, with only a limited number of services available online. However, in a stark contrast, the region has now embraced digitalization wholeheartedly, with over 1,000 public services being made available online. This significant expansion has empowered citizens by providing them with convenient access to essential services from the comfort of their homes.
A key milestone in this digital journey is the integration of 485 e-services with the Rapid Assessment System, allowing for real-time feedback from citizens. With over 7.5 million citizens actively participating in providing feedback, the government has been able to identify areas for improvement and enhance service delivery mechanisms accordingly.
Moreover, to ensure the timely delivery of services, 300 online services have been linked with the auto-appeal system, streamlining the process and reducing bureaucratic hurdles. This proactive approach has significantly improved the efficiency and effectiveness of governance, making it more responsive to the needs of the people.
The surge in electronic transactions is a testament to the success of the digital revolution in J&K. Recording a staggering 74 crore 42 lakh e-transactions in the previous year, with an average of over 2 million transactions registered daily, the region has surpassed many developed states in terms of digital adoption. This unprecedented growth reflects the growing confidence of citizens in digital platforms and their willingness to embrace technology for everyday transactions.
Aadhaar-seeding has played a crucial role in enhancing the transparency and efficiency of welfare schemes in J&K. By ensuring that all beneficiaries are linked to Aadhaar, the government has facilitated direct transfer of funds into their bank accounts, eliminating intermediaries and minimizing leakages. During the current fiscal year alone, Rs. 2,754 crores have been transferred directly into the accounts of 65 lakh beneficiaries, empowering them to access essential resources and services with ease.
Furthermore, recognizing the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI), the government has formulated a comprehensive AI strategy with a focus on key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, mobility, education, and law enforcement. By harnessing the power of AI, J&K aims to enhance service delivery, optimize resource allocation, and improve decision-making processes across various domains.
The digital revolution in Jammu and Kashmir is not just about embracing new technologies; it is about empowering citizens, fostering transparency, and driving inclusive growth. As the region continues to leverage digital innovations to address socio-economic challenges, it is poised to emerge as a model of digital governance and inclusive development. With a strong foundation in place and a clear vision for the future, J&K is charting a course towards a more connected, efficient, and prosperous future for all its citizens.
