Pulwama: Several structures including a Masjid were partially damaged in a landslide incident in Kanikoot Shadimarg area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, reports and locals said.

The residents of the area said that a broad band service line was being laid in the area for which a JCB machines were used.

They said that the machines not only damaged the roads in the area but it burst water supply lines and the continuous water leakage from the pipes lead to the landslide.

Mohammad Maqbool Dar, a local resident said that the local authorities shouldn’t have allowed the company to dig the road side by using JCBs given the fact that people are residing close to these slope sides.

He said that machines laying the line without digging should have been used so that the mishap could have been avoided.

Sameer Gul, another local resident said that there are around 30 residents in Kanikoot area who are under threat due to the landslide.

He said that the reason behind landslide is bursting of pipes by JCBs for which the authorities that have granted permission for the use of heavy machines should be held responsible.

Locals said that so far few residential houses besides a masjid has suffered partial damage but if the slide continues it can cause more damage.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps in this regard so that further damage may be averted.

They requested authorities to investigate the matter as to who has given permission to the company to dig the road side thereby inviting trouble for the locals.
