Police solves theft case in Ganderbal within hours, two held

Srinagar: Police in Ganderbal solved a theft case within hours by arresting two accused persons involved in the commission of crime. Stolen property has also been recovered from their possession, a police spokesman said Monday.

He said that yesterday during evening hours, police received an information through reliable sources that some unknown thieves had entered the residential house of Ghulam Mohammad Sofi son of Noor-Din Sofi resident of Patipora Saloora and taken away some jewellery and cash.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 18/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation was initiated.

The spokesman said that a special police team was constituted and acting swiftly, a special police team after strenuous efforts and with the help of technical inputs and CCTV footage, apprehended two accused persons identified as Imran Ismail Bhat and Umar Shafi Gilkar, both residents of Tailbal Hazratbal.

During preliminary investigation, officers learnt their involvement in the commission of crime. On their disclosure, stolen jewellery including 01 Golden Ring, a pair of Golden Ear Rings, a Golden Badge & cash amount of ₹13,000 have been recovered from their possession. Vehicle (Amaze Car) bearing registration number JK01AT-1953 used in the commission of the crime has also been seized, the spokesman added.
