Shopian residents demand separate women’s college
Shopian: Residents of south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded a separate women’s college in the district.
The residents along with activists said that in order to enhance educational opportunities and promote gender inclusivity, there is need of a separate women’s college in Shopian town.
Social activist Mitha Gatoo said they submitted a memorandum before Chief Secretary in which they have demanded a separate women’s college on priority basis.
He said that the literacy rate of the district is quite satisfactory but our girl students are facing a lot of problems due to non-availability of Women College as they are bound to visit and take admission in various colleges of other Districts.
“ Having a women’s college in Shopian is a long pending demand which needs to be fulfilled at an earliest,” he added.
Other activists said that there is need of importance of fostering a supportive learning environment, as a separate institution would empower women in the region, addressing unique educational needs and encouraging academic excellence.
Several girl students said that they are seeing separate women’s colleges in most of the district but not in Shopian.
They said separate institutions provide a supportive environment, fostering empowerment and addressing gender-specific challenges.
They along with activists demanded the attention of higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and take steps in this regard.
