In a first, Kral check Shopian gets electricity
Shopian : The residents of New Basti Kral Check in Keller hamlet of south Kashmir’s Shopian district are feeling elated as the area got access to electricity for the time ever.
Officials said that Kral check is located in a far off forest area of Keller and has a population of around 200 souls.
“The habitation got electricity under a centrally sponsored scheme as the area was yet to experience the marvel of science,” the official added.
On Wednesday when the hamlet got connected to the power network, the locals felt elated and could not believe their eyes.
They said that they have been living in the forest area since years but were still dependent on candles and other traditional lighting systems.
“We were eagerly waiting for the electricity as we have been struggling hard to provide education to our children due lack of electricity,” said Azhar Khan, a local resident.
He said that as area has got electrified and now their children will be able to study in evening hours too, otherwise under traditional lights it wasn’t possible.
“Now we will be able to charge our phones and talk to our relatives which otherwise was impossible without electricity,” said Mohammad Rizwan, another local resident.
After the hamlet got connected to the power network, the locals thanked the administration for electrifying the area and said that there is festive environment in the area after witnessing this marvel for first time.
They said that first sight of electricity has brought cheers among locals and it is proing to be as if a dream has come true.
They thanked the MD JKPDCL, CE PDD, DC Shopian and other officials for providing electricity to the area.
They also thanked local DDC and BDC and according to them it was possible only due to their efforts.
An official of the PDD department said that area has been electrified and around 30 households have been able to experience electricity for the first time.
He said that work on the project was started and completed this year and the area has got electricity for the first time.
He said the transformer was installed and it was inaugurated by local DDC member Irfan Manhas.
