Athletes demand facilities at Sports Stadium Bajwani Tral
Pulwama: The sports ground located in Bajwani Tral area of Pulwama district lacks basic facilities due to which the local players and sports lovers have been facing a tough ordeal.
The athletes from Tral area said that they are thankful to the government that Indoor sports stadium has been completed and hundreds of players are getting benefitted.
They said that they were hopeful that government will complete work on outdoor stadiums that is cricket stadium and football stadium but they have been left incomplete.
Unfortunately, despite being a historical ground where players from every nook and corner of Kashmir prefer to play and practice has been left incomplete, the players said.
Basharat Ahmad, a local players said that work on football stadium has been left midway while cricket stadium needs immediate leveling, space for dug out, seating arrangements and washroom facilities.
He said that our valley is facing the nuisance of drug addiction which is due to lack of recreational opportunities provided to our youth and development of such grounds is very important to keep them away from drugs.
Zahoor Ahmad, a senior player who has played cricket in different countries said that several time officials of the administration visited the ground and assured that the ground shall be transformed into a proper stadium, but the sorry state of sports infrastructure here is such that even this ground being one of its kind in the area, it has been neglected.
He added that ground is lying in dilapidated condition and there is no toilet, washroom facilities, no fencing, no proper leveling, no water and electricity facilities available despite that government claiming that lakhs of rupees have been spent on developing the playing area.
Players said that the government must investigate as to what happened to the fnds that have been spent on developing the facilities and the ground as well.
The sports lovers and players said that if the ground will be developed on modern lines, it would help players to nourish their talent and prove their mettle at mega stages.
They said that developing sports infrastructure is the only option to keep youth away from drug addiction.
They urged the concerned authorities to develop the ground at an earliest so that youth will be engaged in sports activities and will not fall prey to drugs.
