Police recovers illicit forest timber in Handwara
Srinagar: Police recovered illicit timber in a forest compartment of Khudi Mawar area of Handwara in north Kashmir, a police spokesman said Friday.
He said that acting on a reliable information regarding the smuggling, cutting of timber in forest compartment No. 25 of Khudi Mawar, a team of officers from police rushed to the spot and seized 05 logs of Deadar (Himaliyan Cedar) measuring up to 22 CFT.
The accused persons involved in the crime on seeing the police party managed to flee from the spot. They have been identified as Salamdin Khatana son of Laldin Khatana, Nazir Ahmad Khatana son of Sartaj Khatana and Mohammad Ramzan Wani son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, all residents of Khudi Mawar. Efforts are on to nab them.
A case vide FIR No. 68/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation into the matter has been initiated, the spokesman added.
