Pulwama:- The students of different villages of Kakapora tehsil of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded introduction of commerce stream at Higher Secondary School Kakapora.

The students of the area said that higher secondary Kakapora was established in year 1983 but government is yet to make arrangements for introducing commerce stream here.

Ghulam Hassan Pandit, a local Sarpanch said that the higher secondary school has historical importance as this institution was figuring among the only five higher secondary schools that were functional in entire Pulwama and Shopian districts.

He said that neither commerce stream is available nor new science streams are being taught here due to which local students are forced to take long routes if they opt for commerce or other newly introduced subjects.

Students of the area said many among them belonging to financially weak families have opted for other streams even though they were interested in commerce stream.

They said that HSS Kakapora is catering to a huge area and government must take immediate steps for introducing these subjects so that students can choose subjects of their interest.

Locals said that that they have brought the issue of upgrading of HSS Kakapora in notice of the concerned authorities several times but to no avail.

They have appealed authorities that both Commerce and other subjects should be introduced in Govt Higher Secondary School Kakapora so that students can avail these new courses.

The students and locals have sought immediate intervention of Director School Education Kashmir in this regard so that students can pursue studies according to their interest.
