Dogam Pulwama residents demand potable water

Pulwama: The residents of Dogam area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded potable water in their area as the existing filtration plant in the locality has not been made functional so far, locals said.

The residents of the area said that they are forced to consume contaminated water due to the non-functional filtration plant.

They said that water borne diseases can break out in the area any time as the people consume water directly taken from streams and wells.

Abrar Ahmad, a local resident said that water supply scheme in the area was constructed in year 2007 to feed Dogam and Ratnipora villages, however, its filtration plant hasn’t been made functional so far.

During rainy reason, they have to consume the muddy water, he said.

Locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.

They have requested the concerned officials of the administration to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, an official of the concerned department said that there is a leakage in the filtration tank due to which it can’t hold water for long time.

However, he assured that leakage will be rectified and the area will get filtered water soon.
