Shopian: The residents of Kapran village and its adjacent areas in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded posting of adequate staff at PHC Kapran.

The residents of the area said that the health centre in the area was upgraded to PHC after local’s voluntarily donated their land for the hospital.

They said that soon after donation of the land, a new building was constructed but the government is yet to post staff at the hospital.

Abdul Rashid Bhat, a local Auqaf member said that locals have no option other than to visit Shopian or Kulgam for treatment of even minor ailments.

He claimed that people living in around 30 villages have been suffering in absence of the staff at the said PHC.

Locals said that elderly population has been suffering mostly in absence of facilities at the hospital as they are forced to take long distances for getting treatment.

They said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.

“We have even visited offices of several officials of administration who assured us that staff will be posted there but nothing has been done as of now,” the locals said.

The locals have once again requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and post staff at the PHC so that locals won’t suffer any further.
