Hakradan village in Kulgam gets potable water

Kulgam: For the very first time, a far off area of Kund hamlet of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district has got access to the potable water.
The residents of Hakradan said that they have started getting potable water just few days back and the event has brought joy to the local community.
They said that village consisting of around 60 households was without drinking water facilities since long.
They said that the Jal Jeevan Mission has brought joy in their lives and a scheme was started in the area and it has been commissioned recently.
Fayaz Ahmad, a local resident said that locals were facing huge inconvenience in absence of drinking water facility especially during winters.
“Our area witnesses heavy snowfall and during the harsh winter period people were facing difficulties and many would injure themselves while fetching drinking water from far off places,” he added.
“Finally our village has got potable water and credit goes to the concerned department for completing and commissioning the scheme on time,” he added.
Locals while thanking authorities said that they are hopeful that the area will continue to get the supply regularly.
They said that due to this development their lives have become significantly easier.
Officials of the department said that area has been connected through Jal Jeevan Mission and now every household of the village is getting potable water.
They urged the community to use water judiciously, avoiding excessive consumption for non essential purposes and to refrain from using drinking water for agricultural or other uses.
Notably, the Jal Jeevan Mission, a flagship program, has been successful in extending tap water access to thousands of households in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory since its formation.
