Man-animal conflict cases on rise in Tral, locals seek remedial measures

One bear captured, efforts on to capture others: Wildlife Official

Pulwama: Panic has gripped several villages of Tral sub division of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district as cases of man-animal conflict are on rise in the area.

Locals from different areas of Tral said that there is fear among the people of the area as several persons were injured by bears in the area during the past few months.

“We are in constant fear and due to fear of being attacked by wild animals we are not venturing out of our houses,” the locals alleged.

Dozens of persons have got injured after they were attacked by wild animals and the number of such incidents is on the rise, they said.

They requested authorities to capture the animals roaming in the area at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.

Wildlife officials while acknowledging that such cases are on rise said that Tral is almost surrounded by forests from all sides and wild animals living in these forests wander into residential areas and human habitations in search of food.

“On Tuesday we captured one bear from Pinglish area and efforts are on to capture other animals venturing in residential areas,” they said .

They added that our teams are on the job to capture other wild beasts roaming in the area.

The officials further added that people must follow advisories issued by the wild life department and co-operate with the teams who are in the field to capture the wild animals.

People need to take precautions and avoid roaming alone especially during morning and evening hours and all possible steps are being taken for the safety of public along with their property, they added.
