Picturesque Panner dam in Tral awaits official attention

Pulwama: A mesmerizing dam popularly known as Panner dam in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district awaits official attention.

Panner dam which is emerging as favourite picnic spot is covered by green forests all around which is adding to the beauty of this dam.

According to locals, it has a good potential to be developed as a tourist spot, however, the dam continues to be neglected by authorities.

They said that the dam besides being source of irrigation for nearby paddy fields of Panner Jageer, Mandoora and its adjacent areas has picturesque scenery and attracts tourists as well.

“The dam was without an accessible road which gave tough time to the visitors to the place. However, a road was developed recently, which is now waiting for government attention to make further development of this spot,” a local said.

He said that no attention is being given to keep the water body and area around it clean besides that there are no parking facilities available for tourists.

He added that no residential quarters besides other facilities are available due to which tourists who come here leave dissatisfied.

Locals said that they have brought this issue in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.

They said that if the area will be brought on tourism map, it will help in generation of employment opportunities for locals and government can generate good revenue as well.

The locals once again requested higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps for development of the spot so that it can attract more and more people and can generate employment for the local youth.
