Police arrests five drug peddlers
Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Handwara and Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Thursday.
He said that a police party at a checkpoint established at Lilam Crossing, arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohammad Saleem Khan son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Manzgam. During search, 01 Kg of Charas was recovered from his possession. He was shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Meanwhile, in Awantipora, a police party at a checkpoint established on NHW Chersoo, arrested four drug peddlers identified as Tawseef Ahmad Parray son of Ghulam Hassan Parray resident of Pujtang Sangam, Tariq Ahmad Kutoo son of Ghulam Nabi Kutoo resident of Tailbal Nishat Srinagar, Sujha Saleem son of Bashir Ahmad Tarbie resident of Devar Tral and Muzamil Hussain Teli son of Gh Hassan Teli resident of Habbak Srinagar.
During search, 2.45 Kgs of Poppy Straw, 2.5 grams of Brown Sugar and 06 grams of Charas were recovered from their possession.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, he said.
