Locals demand repairs, macadamisation

Pulwama: The residents of Shahabad Bala in Tral sub division of Pulwama district are up in arms against the authorities as according to the locals the road from Khanqah-Shahabad is in dilapidated condition.

The residents of the area said that the R&B department has failed so far in taking any steps for repairing the road and the bad bumpy road is giving tough time to commuters.

They said that even vehicles find it hard to move on the road and the people have to walk long distances to reach their destinations.

“The road is in such a bad shape that we can’t go by foot on the road as huge potholes and pits make it impossible for travelers to tread on the road,” the locals alleged.

Shakoor Ahmad, a local resident said that road is filled with big potholes making the movement of children and elderly people very difficult.

“Even little rains turn this road into a pond and people are forced to stay indoors during wet weather,” he added.

“Despite falling close to the town, due to unknown reasons the authorities have been neglecting this area due to which locals have been facing inconveniences,” said Mudasir Ahmad, another local.

They said that despite bringing this issue into the notice of higher ups several times, they have shown no interest in carrying out repair works on the road.

The locals said that the road was sanctioned under NABARD but just around 1.5 km was macadamised while the rest of the portion was left unattended.

They said that this road is very narrow and in dilapidated condition at most of the spots and authorities must take cognizance of the issue by macadamising the road so that people won’t suffer anymore.
