Police arrests five drug peddlers in Kulgam, Baramulla

Srinagar: Police arrested five drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Thursday.

He said that in Kulgam, a police party during its routine patrolling near Navyug Tunnel Qazigund intercepted a suspicious vehicle (Santro) bearing registration No. CH03R-3855 with four persons onboard.

During search of the vehicle, 830 grams of Charas like contraband substance was recovered. They have been identified as Sher Aalam Khan son of Nawab Khan and Sohail Ahmad Khan son of Shahzad Ahmad Khan, both residents of Dadoo Marhama, Anantnag, Ashraf Ali son of Noor Mohammad resident of Dandal Udhampur and Makhan Lal son of Hans Raj resident of Ossu Udhampur. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized, the spokesman said.

In Baramulla, police arrested one person identified as Zubair ul Islam son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar resident of Tantraypora Palhallan Pattan has hoarded narcotic substance at his residential house.

Accordingly, a police party of Police Post Palhallan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan along with concerned Magistrate raided the specific location. During search of the house, 9.2 Kgs of Grinded Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered and seized. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Regarding the incidents, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, he added.
