Special events held across Sopore town on World environment day 2023
Sopore: World environmental day were also celebrated with enthusiasm in Sopore town as special events was held by Municipal council Sopore with the theme “MERA SWACHH SHEHAR” Under the campaign Reduce, Reuse, Recycle of waste materials.
Director ULB Kashmir Masooma Mathura was the chief guest on the occasion who flagged off the program at clock tower Sopore, where she also handover new Hoopers to MC Sopore which will be used for different municipal wards across Sopore town for cleaning and collecting solid waste.
During the event various activities were carried out under the supervision of president municipal council Sopore Masrat Rasool Kar.
The awareness rally carried out by students was held from clock tower at Iqbal market and went through the town during which participants carried placards, encouraging everyone to live sustainably and address the climate catastrophes.
Meanwhile, the cycle rally was also held which was kick started by the BDC chairperson Dr. Farida Khan from Welkin school Sopore to Degree college gate.
Later, the Director ULB Ms Masooma Mathura presided over a Seminar Cum Awareness programme in the auditorium room at Government degree college Sopore wherein students of various educational institutions, municipal council employees, Members of civil organizations have shown their enthusiastic participation.
Sopore Municipal Council chairperson Masrat Kar on the occasion said that it is crucial to keep ourselves and our environment clean and hygienic in order to make the world safe for us and for future generations.
She added that we need to eradicate litter and avoid irresponsible waste disposal practices. There is no excuse for plastic waste in the environment. it should always be recycled and thrown away in a responsible manner, she said.
Moreover, a felicitation programme was also held during which students were felicitated with certificates
