Anantnag: The residents of Methmou village in Chittergul area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have demanded a bridge over a nallah flowing in the area.

The residents of Methmou, a far flung area in Anantnag said that they are facing lot of problems in absence of a bridges over the nallah.

They said that their children are studying that falls across the nallah and the need for a bridge becomes all the more important.

“The students have to cross the nallah daily so that they could reach their school. Their lives are at risk once it starts to rain and the water level in the nallah swells,” Subzar Ahmad, a local resident said.

He said that a drain has been constructed over the nallah and the students are crossing the nallah by walking on the drain which can prove fatal.

Locals said that it is dangerous to cross the nallah through the drain as student can fall in drain as well as in nallah as the width of the drain is not more than one feet.

They said that district administration has failed in taking cognizance of the issue and no steps have been taken to mitigate the problems of the locals.

The administration has been spending lakhs in different works everywhere but they have failed in constructing a bridge here, the locals added.

They said that they have knocked on the doors of every government authority to get their issue redressed but to no avail.

Despite voting, taking part in every government programme, repeated assurances with us have proved hoax on ground, they said.

“We have high hopes on LG Manoj Sinha and DC concerned that they will look into it and direct the concerned authorities to take necessary steps,” the locals added.
