Starts restaurant in Kulgam

Kulgam: A young woman from South Kashmir has broken stereotypes by opting to adopt a male dominant job as she has started a restaurant outside her residence.

Rozy Jan (24), a resident of Ghat village in Khudwani Qaimoh hamlet of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district has started a small restaurant outside her residence to earn her livelihood.

Rozy while talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’ said that she left her education soon after passing 8th due to financial issues in her family and was always trying to do something to earn something for herself and the family as well.

She said that running a restaurant was a male dominated job here, but after thinking a lot she found there is no eating place in her locality and by starting it, she can earn her livelihood.

“After trying to make chola Puri, Biryani and other things at home for some time, I decided to start a hotel outside our residence where my brother is also helping me,” she said.

“Since last two months, we have been running this hotel and we both have been earning well though our client base is not that strong as we had otherwise expected,” Rozy said.

“We are planning to add more varieties in our menu in coming days so that the number of customers will be increase and generate more income for uus,” Rozy added.

She gave credit of her success to Ummeed Scheme of NRLM as according to her by becoming member of SHG she got help from the government to start the restaurant.

In her message, she said rural women must become part of SHG groups to get timely help and start something of their own to earn their livelihood.

“If an illiterate woman like her can start something with the Ummeed , then why can’t educated women get benefit from it,” she added.

Notably, NRLM has provided chances to hundreds of rural women like Rozy to showcase their talent and earn their livelihood by starting their own businesses.
