Pulwama: Even after a elapse of over six years a very vital bridge is awaiting completion in Urbagh area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The residents of the area said that a bridge was sanctioned six years back for the area during the PDP-BJP regime, however, it was never completed.

They said that they were connected with rest of the district through a wooden bridge, however, due to incessant rains during the past week, the bridge collapsed thereby disconnecting several villages.

Asif Ahmad, a local resident said that work on the bridge was started soon after it was approved, however, due to unknown reasons work on it was stopped many times leaving it incomplete.

He said that authorities were informed in this regard umpteen times but to no avail and the residents were left to suffer.

“We have made several representations to the authorities but received only promises. Even today the construction work has not been restarted,” Manzoor Ahmad, another local resident said.

He said that despite knocking the doors of every authority, residents are forced to take longer routes to reach their destinations.

Locals added that all important institutions are on other side of the stream and they have no option other than to cross the makeshift bridge to reach to DC office and other institutions.

“But since past one week this option too has closed for them as the makeshift bridge has also collapsed,” he added.

The locals added that during medical exigencies, the people are left with no other option that to leave the patients suffering for want of medical attention.

The locals have now requested higher officials of the district administration to look into the matter at an earliest and construct the bridge so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
